Chad T. Carlson, MD, FACSM

Dr. Chad Carlson comes to Stadia Sports Medicine from Champaign, Illinois, where he worked for both Carle Clinic Association and the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana.  At Illinois, he functioned as one of the team physicians for the Fighting Illini, taking care of athletes in a wide array of sports, from ice hockey to basketball.  Dr. Carlson has covered multiple NCAA National Championship events, as well as national championship events for U.S. Gymnastics and U.S. Swimming and Diving.  Prior to coming to Champaign, he served as one of the team physicians at Ball State University, and has been involved in high school athletic event coverage for many years. His clinical interests include identifying the biomechanical basis for patient injury, office-based injury care/arthritis care, and clinical exercise testing, including the diagnosis and management of exercise-induce asthma. He has published clinical articles on various sports medicine subjects and has spoken on many subjects at national sports medicine meetings. He and his wife Amanda have three children -- Ava, Ian, and Eli. In his spare time, he enjoys active pursuits with family, reading, golfing, exercising, and church-related activities at Westkirk Presbyterian Church in Urbandale, where he serves as an Elder.  He also serves as a cub scout den leader.
