the ability to clear lactic acid from the body after intense workouts. Prior research has suggested that breathing against resistance after exercise helps clear lactic acid as effectively as active recovery using the arms and legs. Clearing lactic acid from the body should result in less fatigue and better performance with repeated exercise. In this study, researchers wanted to know if having an athlete do regular inspiratory training for six weeks prior to testing further increased their ability to get rid of lactic acid. What they found is that only the patients who had done regular inspiratory muscle training were able to reduce lactic acid from the body after exercise. Inspiratory strength measurably improved in the athletes who used the trainer.

Inspiratory training has been shown in multiple studies to improve endurance performance. This study suggests that regular use of an inspiratory trainer (which only involves 30 breaths against resistance twice daily) will also make workouts more efficient when repeated intense efforts are involved.
