{"id":373,"date":"2015-07-30T19:34:54","date_gmt":"2015-07-30T19:34:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stadiasportsmedicine.com\/info\/?p=373"},"modified":"2017-11-07T17:47:27","modified_gmt":"2017-11-07T17:47:27","slug":"vitamin-d-deficiency-iowa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stadiasportsmedicine.com\/info\/2015\/vitamin-d-deficiency-iowa\/","title":{"rendered":"Vitamin D Deficiency in Iowa Among Athletes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Prevalence of Abnormal Vitamin D Levels Among Division I NCAA Athletes<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Why you should pay attention to this<\/span><\/em>:\u00a0 Vitamin D deficiency is common in Iowa.\u00a0 Athletes who are severely deficient in Vitamin D have higher risks to develop stress fractures.\u00a0 There is some evidence that athletes who are deficient have less muscle power as well.\u00a0 This study shows that, even in a grouping of healthy college athletes, over 1\/3 of those tested had abnormal levels.\u00a0 Risks are higher in patients with naturally darker skin.\u00a0 Vitamin D levels fluctuate through the year, so levels right now are probably as high as they will be all year.\u00a0 In other words, patients who are deficient in June are almost assuredly deficient in the winter.<\/p>\n<p>For more information on Vitamin D testing, contact our office at (515) 221-1102.<\/p>\n<p>Want to know more?
